their savings to more than half a million pounds, increasing year on year by 21%.
In the financial year 2006-7 we issued 304 low cost loans totaling £393,000
saving members tens of thousands of pounds in unnecessary interest, and encouraging
people to save as they borrow.
August 2006: Save as You Borrow
In response to requests from our members
we have made it easier for members to use our
'Save as You Borrow' scheme. Although upper
limits on loans are in place, and members are
encouraged to save before they apply for a loans,
anyone can join and apply for a loan on day
one of membership.
This allows us to transfer high interest debts
such as overdrafts, credit cards and doorstep
lenders' loans, saving members' money from day
one.
July 2006: Time for Growth
Croydon Savers has recently heavily invested
in computerising our systems to speed up our
service to members.
A new office with improved facilities will allow
us to continue to improve our customer service
to provide the best possible service to all.
A major publicity drive is now commencing following
the office launch on 29th March, with a focus
on offering a real alternative to the doorstep
lenders which charge an average interest rate
of 177% APR to the people on the lowest incomes.
